You are listening to the mompreneur mindset podcast, a space where we empower you to build an aligned business. So you can spend less time on the things you think you should be doing in your business, and more time with the people you love. I am your host, Gianna Diggs, let’s get into it.
Welcome back to the show. So I’ve been on a two month hiatus from airing new episodes, of course, if you’re listening to this in real time, and that is because my son decided that he wanted to be born on July 7 2022. And that is exactly one day after my birthday. And so now you might have heard me talk about how I’m in a program. It’s called Flow 365. And we have words for our 90 Day season that we plan. And so my word from last season was to be prepared. Because basically, I was trying to prep, you know, the show my business my life for what life would look like after my son is born. And I now have two kids. And so I had every intention on having all my episodes, edited and ready to go. But you know, I am a solopreneur. I do everything myself, so such as life, right. So we are officially back for the second half of season two. So it’s funny that I mentioned floaties six, five, because today, I have the founder of the program and my mentor me and Moran on the show. So a little bit about Mia she is a mom of three and coach who has struck her perfect balance between motherhood, wellness and work. She supports high achieving female entrepreneurs who are overwhelmed with the life of wellness pieces, find their version of balance. She is the host of plan, simple podcast, Best Selling Author of plan, simple meals, and the creator of the flow planning method, the flow planner, and the program. I’m in flow 365. So without further ado, let’s get into today’s episode. Hi, Mia, welcome to the show.
Mia Moran 2:21
Hi, Gianna, thank you so much for having me here. I’m so excited.
Gianna Diggs 2:24
Yes, I am to for those that have listened to season one. I’ve talked about Mia all the time, she is one of my mentors. And I’m so excited to have her here today. So today, we’re really going to be discussing balancing motherhood and self care, all while having a business. And we’re going to be discussing your process that I love that and use and in in the program, which is your flow process, right? And how that can support you as a mom, entrepreneur. So first, my first question is, what was going on in your life that made you create this process? All right. So
Mia Moran 3:01
consciously, the process came about about a couple of years after I actually started using it. So I’m gonna go back and explain sort of like how it came in. So basically, my story is I have three kids who are now teenagers. But at the time when they were all under five, I had a health crisis. And I’ve always been an entrepreneur. So at the time, I just wasn’t a coach yet. I owned a design company, a graphic design company. So I had this company, and I had these three beautiful kids. And I kind of had like checked off all the boxes. And yet, I was like literally miserable. And the most tangible piece of that misery was the fact that I had gained 85 pounds in my first pregnancy. And I had just sort of held on to it through nursing and then being pregnant again, and all those things. So I decided that I was going to take care of my body, even though it seemed kind of impossible with all that I was doing. And what that led me to doing was basically one day I just I just remember very vividly deciding actually, how it actually happened was I looked across my desk and saw this obscene Lehigh stack cup of coffee, like empty coffee cups from Starbucks that I had consumed during the day. And it was like three and I was like, how am I possibly so tired? And I have had this much coffee. And so it was kind of like how have I been out of the office this many times and I thought caffeine was supposed to give me energy and I was just exhausted. So it sort of started me deciding that this is what I was going to take on I was going to take on my health and I had this little unit remember those those calendars that are like a quote a day, you know, they’re like the pieces of paper that you rip off like I have one of those that had like really inspirational deliberate creation which I don’t even know what that was yet quotes and I Just like remember loving all the words and on the back of it, there was half of it had the time. So you’ll recognize this from the flow planner, half of it had like the times of the day, and the other half was blank. So I started this practice after I decided I was going to do this, that I would rip off a piece of paper every morning, I would read the quote, I would decide the three things that I was going to do no matter what, and I would decide what time I was going to do them. So that’s how I went about getting healthy. And it was a very sort of like, enjoyable, quick, I tell people it’s like, I mean, the weight probably took some time to come off. But my happiness really went up in weeks, I tell people like the first 10 days felt like 10 years of therapy, like, I just got happy really quickly just in changing my food. And I didn’t know how to cook like I didn’t know what Kale was. So it wasn’t like I was this enlightened person who was going off and eating healthy, like I really made a lot of big changes. But this way of deciding what I was going to do each day was really important. So fast forward. I didn’t quite see that that was important yet, but it was what I did every day. And I went on to write a book about food and family and how to feed your family well. And as I was reading that book, I’m dyslexic. I remember I had like, sort of stopped this practice of these pages. So I hadn’t. So So I still had like the, you know, there’s 365 pages, I still had some of them. And I remember when I had the idea to write this book, I started doing it again, like I would read the quote, I would turn it over, I would write three things. And I would find the time. And I write wrote the book. And then I did the same thing. I think by this time, I bought a new pad of paper. And I went I took my three kids at a school. So at this time, you know, when I first started this thing, they were babies, and now they were in grade school. And I took them out of school for a year. And I went on this book tour. And the book tour was all about food. And I ended up for some reason I had this idea that we needed to be on the west coast. So we ended up in like Colorado and California and all the West Coast states. And I just kept getting it in front of these audiences of mothers. And they didn’t need to know about green smoothies or kale. Like they already knew all that. But they still weren’t like sitting down for dinner, they still weren’t feeding themselves. They weren’t taking care of themselves. And I was like What on earth is going on? And we started just like taking out their phones. And I realized that like, actually, they didn’t have time, they actually didn’t have time for the things that they wanted to do. Wow. So that’s when I was like, Well, how did I do all these things? Like, how did I even get here, and I feel really good. And I feel really imbalanced. And I had always attributed it to the food. But actually, it was due to this practice of really getting calm, deciding what I wanted to do keeping it really simple and down to like one to three things and then finding the time for it, which you probably recognize, right? Knowing the flow planner.
Gianna Diggs 7:59
Right? Wow,
Mia Moran 8:00
that was like the evolution.
Gianna Diggs 8:02
I love that. I love that. I feel like a lot of times, you know something is what that’s how our businesses start, right? Like, it’s something going on in our life that like we need to fix. And, and I love that, you know, you recognize that your your health was most important, especially with the children. So So explain to us how the flow process works for those not familiar with it?
Mia Moran 8:25
Yep. So one of the things that I noticed, as I was like really then considering like how how, like, how can I duplicate what I did? How did this work with time? Like what what is the magic behind this? One of the things I very quickly saw was that I think a lot of us, especially creative entrepreneurs, like moms, like we don’t want to be stuck in the what we consider the structure of a calendar, I think a lot of us are running away from that, because we want this sort of life of freedom and we want it we feel like freedom feels like not related to the calendar like we can make up and decide what we want to do. Right. And so I noticed that and then I also noticed that what we were doing instead was writing these long, long to do lists. And very quickly feeling the overwhelm that comes from that the inadequacy of not being able to fulfill all the things because the To Do lists we write are literally for like years, and we think we can get them done in a day. And then we feel really bad. And so I was just noticing, like those two things. And at the same time, I was just learning so much. And it started to I started to realize that like the process of writing a list the process of and all those three moments like the the food, the book, the tour, they were all really intuitive, clear hits like it was like I woke up one morning and I was like, oh my god, this is what I have to do. And it wasn’t like there was It was just it was just such a firm knowing. And it was so firm that I could very quickly go, and basically make a plan for how to fulfill it. Like I didn’t know everything, but I knew enough to start taking action, right? And so there’s this quality in the flow planning process of like, yes, we need to write lists, that’s very feminine, like that whole piece of like, coming into knowing of what we want, writing it down, being creative about it, like do all the things and thinking about all the things right, as women, we think about our kids, we think about work, we think about the food, we think about all the different pieces. And yet, all those things are siloed. So especially when you have young kids, it’s like the school schedules here, extracurricular schedules here, our work schedules here, usually we keep like all self care stuff in our head. So it’s all kind of disjointed. And so I was finding that what I was doing was I was writing everything down in one place. And then I was making sure in advance that I could find time for it, right. So with those little pieces of paper, it’s like I was deciding the three times, and I was just getting really clear that like, Okay, I just need to be able to make this healthy lunch. And that’s going to take me 40 minutes, because I don’t know how to cook yet. And so I’m going to put that here into this place, and I’m going to make this time for it. And it was interesting, because it’s like this, this i It’s this quality of like, you get really clear and that feels not overwhelming, it feels really useful in the moment, like before, you have to get to it. And then when and then if there is overwhelm, you sort of get through some of that in advance of ever getting to the moment. And then when you get to the moment, you can really you’re not battling choice, you’re just battling the unique, like the real emotions that are coming up in that moment. So you know, I plan to have some salad I make the time to do it, I get to the time of the salad, a friend calls me and invites me to some not healthy restaurant. And I can really like claim what I had decided I wanted for myself in a different way I can invite the friend over for the salad, you know, I can eat and then go meet her like there’s there becomes all these possibilities where before that I always got into these moments where I felt really stuck. So through through that process. So it’s this. So the flow planning process, which was the initial question is really about getting clear in lists and moving it into time. And we do that over and over and over again. So as you know, like we do that, like really thinking about what we want for the next five years. And then I’m a big believer in 90 day seasons. So then we look at the next 90 Day season. And we’re like, what is this season, really about? How do I want to feel who do I want to become, and then we decide what we really want out of that next 90 days. And we do it in this more listy format, but then we claim like when we’re going to do the things and so that’s really the important part of it. And then the other important part is that flow stands for food, lifestyle, home and work, which is those, those different areas that I think as women, especially as entrepreneurs who are mothers, we really have to bring into one place into one life because the calendaring system that we use today, the ones that like you can go to Target and get like the flowery planners.
They have flowers, and they look like they’re for women. But it’s actually like the exact same system that was made for men in like revolutionary America. And I can promise you, those men were not thinking about what their kids were eating for dinner. Right, when we were thinking their wives would do that. Right. Yeah, so that’s, that’s the gist of it.
Gianna Diggs 13:42
Okay, one thing I can say that, you know, being in flow for I don’t even know how long now is that? I just I love the even just the flexibility of it too. Right? And just finding, you know, within, like us planning for this this season now, right? Whereas before the two seasons before where I was trying to use, like the, the, you know, the SMART goals and everything when we were looking at our goals, and how even just in our retreat where it went like, Oh, I’m becoming right. And so that became how I phrased my goals and how it resonated with me, like, more. So I love that the flow process is not it’s, it’s, you know what you have to do, but it’s not rigid. And I think and that’s what I love about it because I because like you said, I feel like a lot of other planning systems are rigid, and then you have to figure out how you’re going to adapt it to your life.
Mia Moran 14:38
Well, and also like that whole idea of becoming, you know, like so for example, you know, if you’re becoming somebody who has a certain size business or you’re becoming somebody who has a certain amount of time to spend with your kids every week or You know, whatever these things are, it’s like, you can take pieces of that, that really fit into your life in that season. So, right, like, we have all sorts of different, like, just even everything of the seasons of the year as mothers, like, there’s times when the kids are in school and times when they’re out of school. And those are like, pretty different as an entrepreneur, like, when you’re figuring out what to do. But also like, in our lives, you know, we have seasons where we really needed to focus on our bodies, like you’re in one of those right now. Right. And we have, right, and then and in different ways, because our bodies age in different beautiful ways and their seasons when we feel really creative and seasons when we feel not creative. And so you really get to tap into like, there’s always a way to move your like, dream life forward. But I find that when you can be really honest about where you are, you can move it forward in it in the way that’s most appropriate to that season, instead of just stopping yourself in your tracks, which I think is what we do a lot of the time, it’s like, for all of motherhood, sometimes we’re like, it just must not be my time. Right when the kids get out of the house, when I make this amount of money, you know, and we constantly do that to ourselves. But there is always something that can be done that’s seat like appropriate to the season that will move you forward. And I think that’s really what we tap into that you’re talking about.
Gianna Diggs 16:24
Yes, definitely. So what, what kind of like habits, right, that can support someone in implementing this process, because I just speaking from experience, just, you know, starting flow and going and looking at the planner and like not being someone who likes to put things into time and things like that, like, I can honestly say at first, it was a little bit of a struggle, right? Because I’m like, Okay, I’m not I’m not used to this, this is not usually how I do things. So what what habits and routines like what things can support someone who’s who would struggle to implement this process?
Mia Moran 16:59
Okay, so I’ve noticed that there seem to be two types of people. I feel like entrepreneurs don’t usually fit into this first one, but I’m going to share it anyway. Just in case, it’s somebody who’s thinking about something and they’re not quite tapping in, you know, as somebody who’s been multiple different kinds of entrepreneurs, like I definitely it took me like I stair stepped my way into really my dream career, which I think is where I am now, I loved being a designer, but it you know, I had to go there first, but it wasn’t my dream career. So. So for somebody who feels like, there’s no, there’s just no time to dream. And like, you’re not you’re not thinking of all the things that you might want right now. Or if I say like, just what is your life look like? Like, what is your dream life look like, and you’re just like, you know, deer in headlights like that doesn’t even feel like something you can come up with, I think one of the most important habits to make is making time for that. Making time for yourself to be quiet. And to really be able to picture and one of the ways we do that in the flow planner, and in the program is that we pretty regularly ask what it looks like five years from now, we do it way more than every five years, because I find that every 90 days, people’s five year goal gets like, you know, like, who you become, and those 90 days. So, so that’s something that I think if you’re if you’re not able, if you’re feeling like everything is like, you know, one thing after another good having that’s like the most caring thing we can do for ourselves is take that time to dream. Another habit that I think is really useful, especially if you’re somebody who’s like, oh my god, I have so many dreams, I don’t even know what to do with myself is really getting clear about where you are spending your time. So I think a lot of times when we have a lot of dreams, we kind of have this, these thoughts that we are actually moving more towards them than we actually are. And a lot of the overwhelm is the frustration that that’s mismatch somehow, right? Like so we feel like we’re doing all this thing, because we are like we’re taking care of children and we’re, you know, maybe maybe out of our comfort zone in terms of our businesses and there’s this peace of like, we also want to be taking care of ourselves and we’re probably we might be in relationship with somebody who we’re having these kids with and there’s just all these different and we might have a home or taken care of and you know different things. And so there’s, you know, all of these things. And so really getting clear where your time is going. And you know one of the examples I share a lot is like I did this one day and I was like oh my god I got I like literally went to post an Instagram post and I got lost in other people’s lives for like two hours. And like, I didn’t even know like I wouldn’t if you were to ask me at the end of that day if I hadn’t done that exercise. I would have had I have no idea that that’s what happens, right? So those are like two extremes of like the dreamer, you know, the person who’s not letting themselves dream. And then the dreamer who’s not being who’s a little bit time drunk, I sometimes say like, you’re just not aware of where your time is going, those are two habits that I think are really useful. And then no matter where you are, the third thing I would say, is just giving airtime to planning whatever that looks like for you. And for me, the simplest form of that is just having a pad of post, it’s kind of like my, my pad of, you know, pages one day at a time. And just writing down the night before three things that you’re going to do the next day, that are going to bring you closer to your ideal life like little things, you know, like, I’m going to wake up and give myself a 10 minute meditation, or I’m going to Google a solution to my kids school, or I’m going to look up an article about Pinterest strategies and print it out. Like it doesn’t have to be huge. It’s just like one very specific action that moves you toward a life that feels really great to you. So those are sort of the three.
Gianna Diggs 21:20
I love that. And I always laugh at the we talked about the five year plan, and it’s like, oh, yeah, I thought it was this. And then 90 days later, it’s like, oh, yeah, no, it’s not that. It’s just, well, I’m just kind of seeing the evolution that that has that happens between each season, like, at first I was like, I don’t think it’s gonna change. And then, you know, when it did change, I was like, Oh, I see what she’s talking about
Mia Moran 21:43
that. Yeah, and the reason just FYI, behind five years, because sometimes I coach people on 10, especially if you have little kids. But the whole idea behind any step in our planning process, at least, is that it takes you like, it takes you out of the overwhelm of thinking about the thing and puts you into ease for the moment of planning, right? So the reason we go five or 10 years is because if you have a kid and diapers, and I’m asking you, what’s your ideal business look like? You’re gonna have a whole different answer than if you go out 10 years, and you’re like, Oh, my God, my kid’s gonna be like in school all day, I’m not going to be running around after them, you know, and exhausted in my body, like you’ll see, you’ll be able to see that dream a lot easier, because you’ve gone out of your current circumstances that you’ve gone out of the pandemic, right, like, so time just gave us that freedom to like, not have the constraints of money and the age of our kids and all that. Different things.
Gianna Diggs 22:40
Right. So going back to the, you know, planning for the season, and the four areas, right, like, we know that, you know, each season kind of can be different depending on what’s going on your life. Right. So, and in that the four areas, one area might be, you know, what’s the word, whatever it might be taken over? Right? Like, oh, you right, now you need to focus on your family. Right? Yeah. So how do you handle balancing all the areas like of the flow process and kind of just so that you’re avoiding the overwhelm?
Mia Moran 23:15
Yeah. So. So part of that comes in making those balanced goals. So part of that comes in, in, like, again, it’s like this, this consistent practice of like, getting quiet and finding ease, making the creative list and putting it into time. So at the beginning of a season, we do that, you know, in a bigger way, because that’s when we create goals, right? So we create goals and flow in 190 day, season at a time. And so if you are thinking about a season of goals, and you’re having an you know, and you’re leaning more into motherhood may be at that moment, then you make that goal first. And then we have these four categories. So then you sort of ask yourself, Okay, so if this is what I’m leaning in, around motherhood, how can my food and wellness support that, right? And so often we get into these phases where, you know, some pieces really overwhelming and then we eat like crap and don’t move our bodies. And that actually isn’t helping so but when you can pause, you can be like, oh, yeah, like, if I actually ate dinner early and got to bed, or if I made sure not to have a cup of coffee after three, or if I had a salad every day for lunch, like there’s no right or wrong answer, but you’ll get your answer when you’re like, Okay, so I’m gonna do this in my motherhood, and my foods gonna support me this way. And then over in lifestyle, what do I need? Like maybe I need to be working on my relationship so that I can that doesn’t get in the way of me doing this thing in motherhood or maybe the house is overwhelming and I need to declutter the playroom or you know, clean up my own closet, like whatever, like, whatever is overwhelming you. And then same with work, right? So then it’s like, okay, I have this business and I know I’m in this phase of really wanting to be there for a kid or in your case, have a kid, right? And so then then it’s like, okay, how can work really support this? How can my work support me in this season? And next season, it might be that you’re leading with work, and then you see how like, motherhood, can you know what you need to do over here and motherhood so that you can have the hours you need for work. So it’s always evolving. But I find that when you can really get honest about what’s really important and what you’re needing to lean into. And you do that well, and you get really clear about those, how those other areas support it. It’s kind of like how you do one thing is how you do everything, I think, is the famous saying, and it really is true. So, you know, I will personally give the example that last year, I did have a kid who cheated me a lot, and I mothered sort of with more time a teenager than I imagined in previous times that I would, and my business grew in a way that I couldn’t have foreseen. So it really does go hand in hand, just how we do anything is you know, how we do. One thing is how we do everything and, but really getting clear in advance is super helpful and seeing how they all work together how all the parts work together.
Gianna Diggs 26:27
Right? And, and I was gonna say, you know, that’s, again, another reason why I love the process, because that’s the season that I’m in, right, like, like, going back to when we’re planning out my goals, right, I’m gonna use my example because I’m in the program, but, you know, it’s like, um, and I, I first the first day of the retreat, like I struggled with what my goals were going to be. And then I recognize that like, okay, you know, I have a baby coming, and two and a half months, right, so now that becomes the priority, and how can all of my goals surround that. And that’s what I love, again, about the flexibility of this process is that I was able to say, okay, my fitness and my food, that stuff is preparing me right for now to nurture this child that’s currently growing inside of me. But also once he’s here, and I have to deal with, you know, the postpartum part of it right? And just kind of going through lifestyle. Okay, well, I have a five year old, right, I have to deal with how she’s feeling about having a brother coming and paying attention to her and knowing that she’s still important to me, because a five year old would be like, Well, I’m no longer important, because now there’s another little human who’s getting everyone’s attention, right? And how can my mindset support that because I was prone to to postpartum, right with my daughter? So how can I allow for my spirituality practice to help me with that? And how can I allow my business to grow? Or how can I look at what my business will be, like, you know, now, before he’s here, and then after he comes, right, and so that’s what really resonate with me. And I was drawn to you before I started even in the program, but there there was this level of like, I want to say the balance of the energies of the feminine and the masculine, right? That that really was like, it’s not, it doesn’t lean one way or the other, it’s really a balance. And that’s what made me kind of just move forward to be like, Okay, I want to be a part of this community. Because of the flexibility of it. And it’s
Mia Moran 28:28
interesting, it’s, it’s something that you do so amazingly, and I don’t know that it’s so much built into the planner, the course comes with the planner. So I’ve probably, I’m sure I say it at some point in the course. But this is what we do all the time, as you know, in the program, which is that, you know, when we say I’m going to launch a course, or I’m going to declutter my house, like the old way, like the masculine way, we write a list of like, literally all the things you have to do to launch the course, right, like you have to make, you have to make the the sales funnel you have to, you know, market like all the different things, right? And that’s very logical. That’s, that is very masculine. And we do have to do that. And we also run into fear. And we, you know, might procrastinate because we’re like, you know, dealing with sharing our wisdom for the first time. And that’s when we like add in, you know, all the things you’re so amazing at adding in like, okay, you know what, like, Yes, I have to do this sales page, but I also have to do tapping before I sit down to write it or No, I have to be really honest and go read through some aspects of my human design or whatever it happens to be right or I need to get quiet and meditate or I need to journal and or like sometimes it’s that that supporting goal like I needed to go declutter something and that informs the work right. And those are the things we forget, like we forget how important those pieces are to our success. So I think that’s where a lot of the, the magic happens is that as women, we really need to be adding in these other supports in order to really succeed in in any of the areas because they all really feed each other.
Gianna Diggs 30:15
Right. Great. Yeah, that that’s something I had to learn. I know when I was
Mia Moran 30:23
a new teacher, right, like, so. There’s so many healers in the program, right? Like,
Gianna Diggs 30:27
yeah, no. You know, I had to learn that because I would get frustrated. And then a week or two would go by, and I’m like, I did nothing happened. Why? Right. And I had to figure out what was the reason? Oh, because I was feeling overwhelmed. So I just didn’t do it. Yeah, you know, and so now I know, okay, this is gonna be hard. I’m gonna tap or I’m gonna say some affirmations about, you know, how I can get through this hardship, even though I really don’t want to do it. But I know, I need to get it done. When I wanted to touch a little bit on mom guilt, because I do feel like this. When I was thinking about what I how I wanted to this interview, the flow. I was mom guilt kind of came up. Right? And it was, because I feel like it is a it is the main reason why a lot of you know, moms don’t go after their dreams, right? Because it’s like, okay, if I’m gonna do this, I can’t, you know, I’m taking away from the time with my children. Right. And so you know, you feel guilty, or it’s like, you know, that you got, you have a deadline. But your child just wants to sit underneath you, like my daughter loves to just kind of sit underneath me, I want to just sit with the mommy. And it’s like, I gotta get this done. Like, leave me alone, right? But it’s like, no, right? You know that. So there’s a lot of mom guilt that comes with it. And I really do love the flow process. And I kind of want you to touch on how this flow process? How can I help you, in those areas of like, feeling guilty about whether it’s creating your business or growing your business? Like how this process kind of helps with that? I’ll come back to it rather.
Mia Moran 32:00
Yeah, so Well, first of all, I think you can so so first of all, just like in coming, like really naming where the guilt comes from, and like how we feel it like one of the analogies that I love the most is, you know, well, just even your daughter, like some of the things that we tell ourselves like, can you imagine telling your daughter that, like, Don’t go after your dream right now, sweetie? No sense, right? Or like a friend, like would a friend ever tell you like, don’t work on that, like, don’t make the money that you’ve been dreaming up?
Gianna Diggs 32:37
I would hope I didn’t have any friends. Right? When we
Mia Moran 32:41
think of it that way. You know, like, in the program flow, and in working with you and any coach, it’s like, sometimes I think we actually need the person to be like to reflect back to us, you know what it is, but in the process of planning itself. So without the person, just the planning, I think it catches us and it enables us to see the bigger picture in a way that we can’t in our heads, because in our heads like, we’re just we’re wired to go to the negative, right? So so we’re not going to see the how much the positive things are, which to me is like the self care is, you know, and you know, for a woman who’s the entrepreneur, building, your business can be like, an amazing form of self care, right? Because working with money is an amazing thing. So I just totally lost my track of thought it was like, oh, yeah, so when you put it all down in a play, like when you plan your week, which we do every week, right? Like there’s a time when we plan our week, and you really decide what, what you want. And you see it on paper, you’re like, oh, like I’ve prioritized that I’m going to, you know, be with the kids and this way, because it’s really important to me, and I’ve prioritize this work project, because that really takes care of like, and supports the time that I’m with the kids, right, like, so I’m going to do that. And I really need this time to do my tapping or do my meditation. And when I see it on paper, I’m like, oh, like it does. You can see how it all works together, I think in a way that in our brains are just too busy. And we can’t notice it in the same way. You know, so it’s almost like the paper is like the friend right? The plan is kind of like the friend who’s like, it’s fine. You’ve totally got this is how you need to do it. There would be no other way that you would get to the goal that you want unless you took care of yourself and in this way. So I think I think that’s how, how the plein air just really helps us see and like if you you know a lot of times, if you just did a lot of the things that we We talked about in flow. Without that, that component of really tuning into what you want, and really balancing out all the areas, you probably would end up with something that’s not so different than what we have now like than what you have now. But if you’re really getting clear about what you want, like, you know, a lot of us wouldn’t busy our kids with an extracurricular every single day after school like that wouldn’t serve the whole whole mission. And actually, your daughter sitting under you while you’re doing work, like that’s actually connecting, like, that’s not, she’s like with you, she’s in your energy, right, and she’s watching mom do this thing, which you’ll understand more about later. And, whereas if that same hour, you, you didn’t really care if she dance, but you did it because everybody else in the class was doing it and you went to the class and it made you have to stay up late, and it made her tired and not want to eat dinner, like you wouldn’t feel as good. So sometimes when we see it all on paper, we can actually, like, get that in a different way. Because it’s so easy to just both mother actually and entrepreneurship based on what’s happening around us. I feel like both of those, it’s such, they’re both such amazing personal growth opportunities, because they’re the two things that are so easy to sort of do what’s happening around you, or do what you think you’re supposed to do.
Gianna Diggs 36:27
Right? Yeah, I love that. Like, I was like, I just love how that process just works. Because the mom guilt is real. And I definitely I definitely experienced it in different moments, kind of prior to being in flow. And, and always having you kind of, and the other ladies in the program, kind of just reel me back in. Yeah, that’s what I like to say.
Mia Moran 36:54
The other thing that’s really important about mom guilt is it’s funny, I was just thinking about this the other day, because as we’re, as we’re recording, this Mother’s Day wasn’t so far in the past. And I did a couple things for myself on Mother’s Day. And I was like, it’s so interesting. I feel no guilt about this today. So it’s not like, I don’t ever feel guilt, because I feel a lot of guilt sometimes. But the other thing that plan does is it has you it has you put the things down that you intuitively know like you’re wanting to do. And then you’re like more likely to follow through with them. So it’s not that it necessarily makes it go away. But it takes practice, right? Like it doesn’t just like all the sudden you’re not like, Oh, I totally deserve to go to yoga. Like I don’t think that’s how it works. But you keep going and you keep reaping the benefits of that practice, then the benefits outweigh the guilt at some at some point. So that’s another way that I guess planning really helps support that is that you show up, you show up to what you’re wanting to do.
Gianna Diggs 37:59
Right. So I was I have a question I always ask every guest and I feel like you sort of answered this when we talked about habits. So I want to rephrase it. And what kind of came into my mind was just wisdom. So I was gonna ask you like, what advice would you have? You know, for a mompreneur, who’s struggling with like, time and balance, you know, and how can they implement implement the full process? And I feel like you kind of gave that already. So I guess my and you can still give advice, but I, I always feel like you have words of wisdom, right? I always feel like I take something away from from you. And we have conversations. I’m like, oh, I need to write that down. Because that’s a word of wisdom. So maybe that’s the better question is like, what words of wisdom do you have? Whether someone is struggling or not to, to kind of understand about our time and our balance? And like the importance of it?
Mia Moran 38:50
Yeah. So I was definitely as as I’ve said, like, I have done things like yoga like I’ve been in the worlds of like mindfulness and presence from before this process was created. I mean, maybe I don’t know, who knows about time, it was always created. But since before this process is created, so I definitely, and I think we get sold this in entrepreneurship to like the reason a lot of us go into it is for the freedom. And separate this idea of like planning and freedom because planning kind of feels like the opposite. To many of us, we like go in because we just want to like be with our kids and grow these businesses. And then we get in and it’s like a little bit harder than that. And so I love to think the way that I talk about planning is it’s just simply a gift from your past self to your future self, so that you can be in the now so and I love thinking about it that way because then it’s like oh, yeah, like if I just look at my planner and it’s like, okay, get on the podcast with Gianna, like I can just be present to that because I know that like If I’m going to pick up my kid at three, like that’s right there, and I know that I’m going to write this email right before I got on with you, like, I know all the things and I can really be present to them. And as I’m present to them, what happens is, we also get more and more efficient. So things that once felt hard, get easier and easier. And it’s almost more of an energetic thing than a learned thing. But it’s like, almost like the resistance takes up so much time for many of them. The resistance and the resistance and mothering. And, you know, in the mompreneur world, it’s like, we’re working, I’m sure people can relate to like, we’re working on our business. And we feel like we should be with our kid, or with our kid, I feel like we should be working on our business. Right? You make this plan and you know that it’s like a gift to your future self, and that you can really be present. I think that’s that that really, for me made planning makes sense. And I can see the freedom in it.
Gianna Diggs 41:04
Yeah, I gotta show when you said that. I gotta chill when you said that. Because it is energetic. And I’ve, as someone who’s dealt with a lot of resistance, and we’ve talked about this plenty of times, it’s definitely a remedy of it. So before we go, can you please let the audience know where they can find you online?
Mia Moran 41:23
Yeah, so I think the easiest way is just the website, which is planned simple.com. And on there, actually, there’s a free course. That’s called from overwhelmed to ease which takes takes you through the process of planning your day. So it’s very much based on that. That piece of paper that I talked about, and it sort of goes a little bit deeper into everything that we talked about today. So everyone might consider just coming to take that. And then when you land on the website, if we’re running a challenge, or we have a class coming up, it’s very easy to see it pops up in all sorts of places. And so yeah, come check us out there. And I, I try my hardest. It’s part of my habit building myself to be on Instagram. So plan simple.co is where where I am there. Oh, and we have a podcast which John has been on, right. So yeah, right. From the website, I always forget to podcasts when I’m on podcast, but we have the podcast called the plan simple podcast. It’s all planned simple, so it’s easy. And you can you can hear me interview Gianna there as
Gianna Diggs 42:22
