Hey Loves!

This is my first blog post and I wanted to use this time to give you guys an inside look into who I am and what we might have in common, so I decided to do a Get to Know Me Blog Tag Post.

I know, this isn’t YouTube, but I thought it would be fun to do a post like this, so here we are.

I did some extensive research to find the right questions, which amounted to over 450 potential questions! But don’t worry, I am NOT answering 450 questions.  I compiled a list of 50 questions with my responses below, dassit. I hope you enjoy getting to know me and Welcome to my world!

What’s your full name? My full name is Gianna Domanique Davis-Diggs. I have both my mother and father’s last name hence the two last names. Growing up I would go by one or the other until I got to college and they made me use both names. I did so up until I started teaching and then I decided to only use Diggs to make it easier for my 1st graders.

  1. What does your name mean? Gianna is of Italian origin and means God is gracious.

  2. How old are you? I was born in 1989 so I’ll be 31 this year (2020).

  3. Where are you from? Staten Island, NY better known as Shaolin, home of Wu-Tang Clan and the forgotten borough.

    Giph of Wu-Tang

  4. Where did you grow up? I grew up in both Staten Island and Greensboro, NC. At the age of 11, my mom moved us (me and my sister Nyema) to Greensboro. I’m not going to lie, I hated it at first. Too slow (sorry NC peeps). But then I met my bestie Keke and all was right in the world.

  5. Single or Taken?  I am taken. I have been with my daughters’ father Calvin for going on 8 years.

  6. Do you have children? What are their names? I have one child (no plural over here…yet) Her name is Nyla and she is 3 years old (2020). She is the light of my life and my greatest achievement so far.

  7. How many children do you want to have? I plan to give Nyla another sibling in the near future. I am NOT in a rush, Children are expensive.

  8. What is hard about being a parent? Parenthood isn’t easy, but I wouldn’t call it hard either (because you can do anything you put your mind to). But to answer the question, I would say the financial strain it puts on you and your partner. Like I said before, kids are not cheap. They are your little broke best friends. Also, no matter the type of day, week, month, or year, being a parent doesn’t stop. There are many responsibilities that you have. But you have a little human that depends on you, so keep your head up and understand that no matter what you are going through, it will get better.

  9. How many siblings do you have? I have 6 siblings- 3 brothers and 3 sisters. I am the only child from both my parents. I have 2 brothers- Anthony and Christian- and a sister -Nyema- on my mothers side. I have 2 sisters- Imani and Justice- and 1 brother- Divine on my fathers side. I was an only child until I was almost 8 years old, so I am the oldest by many years. My biggest pet peeve regarding my siblings is people referring to them as my half-siblings. I only give context because I have two sisters born the same year (‘99) and together we are a basketball team with subs, but there are no half-siblings over here!

  10. Do you love playing sports, or just watching it? I ran track in high school but I wasn’t fast at all! I have exercise-induced asthma so running wasn’t the sport I should have went into. But I love to watch sports. Before I had my daughter, my TV stayed on ESPN. I watch mainly football and basketball (doesn’t matter the level) but I’ll watch any sport as long as its not boring (sorry no golf around here)

  11. Are you in/have you gone to college? I went to the ILLUSTRIOUS Spelman College in ℅ 2011. Best decision I made in my life. Shoutout to my Spelman sisters! 💁🏽

    Spelman College Reunion 2016

  12. Who was your first friend in college? Allysa. We had an instant connection and have been friends ever since. Through the good, the bad, and the ugly she has been there.

  13. What is your favorite drink? Are we talking alcoholic or non-alcoholic? Non-alcoholic is Sprite (soda) and Peach Orchard (juice); Alcoholic drink I love a Coco Loso (pineapple juice and Ciroc (or any other vodka). If it’s a light nite, I will drink Malibu and any type of juice. Oh, and if we’re taking shots, bring on the Patrón!

  14. What is your favorite food? Macaroni and cheese. I love baked mac and cheese and box (specially Velveeta).

  15. What is your favorite junk food? I have thee worst sweet tooth, so my junk food is candy. Skittles, Airheads, Laffy Taffy, Peanut M&M’s, and Snickers are my favorites.

  16. What is your favorite movie? The Wood, Love & Basketball, and The Notebook. Just realized the common thread between all three is a coming of age love story. Yes I am a hopeless romantic 🤷🏽

  17. Do you use a PC or a Mac? Apple everything. I had a PC in college but I love my Mac. Since I am an Apple girl, it’s good to have everything synced.

  18. What was your dream job as a kid? I wanted to be a teacher and a hairdresser. My grandmother had an in-home daycare center so when I got home from school, I would teach the kids what I learned in school that day. I kind of moved away from that dream but still found a way to work with kids in some capacity. I finally acted on that dream a few years ago. In the process, I’ve found myself pursuing another dream (entrepreneurship!) so I am no longer in the classroom (although I still consider myself an educator). I taught myself how to braid hair, so that is where the dream to be a hairdresser came from. In H.S. I had the dream to open a chain of hair salons that had babysitting services included (GiGi really loves the kids). It’s still in the back of my head to do it, but I have other businesses that are in creation now, so I may revisit that dream later in life.

  19. How many countries have you traveled to? I love to travel, that’s why I want to live a laptop lifestyle. I have been to Colombia, Costa Rica, Grand Cayman Islands, Grenada, Jamaica, and Mexico. I had a layover in Trinidad on the way to Grenada, but I do not count that as I didn’t leave the airport. I want to visit at least 100 countries before I kick the bucket.

  20. Do you have any weird quirks? I absolutely HATE being embarrassed and in turn, I don’t like to see others do embarrassing things. So when a character in a tv show or movie does something embarrassing or is about to get themselves in trouble, I will either fast forward, turn my head, or even leave the room when it happens. I can’t stand to see them embarrass themselves and it creates a feeling that I can’t describe so I will avoid seeing them do it at all costs. I know weird.

  21. What is your favorite color? I am a lover of all things pink and red (peep my website theme)

  22. What are your favorite values in friends? *Sings in Rihanna- Loyalty, loyalty, loyalty 🎤😩 There is nothing like a loyal friend. Period.

  23. Who is your role model? My mother. She had me at 17 years old. The odds were stacked against her but she showed the world that she could survive and raise an amazing human being. She went to college as soon as she graduated high school, which she graduated on time. She taught me to go after what I want in life and to let nothing keep me from pursuing what I love. She truly is my best friend and I am thankful for the relationship I have with her.

  24. What’s your favorite song? I am a lover of music so I have many. But my favorite of all time is All my Life by KC and Jojo. Fun Fact: When this song first came out I had just gotten a radio in my bedroom. I needed some type of noise in order to sleep through the night so my mom would allow me to play the radio. Whenever All My Life would come on I would wake up to sing it. It’s truly a classic and will remain at the top of my favorites list.

  25. What was your favorite TV show when you were a child? I had 2- Barney and Lamb Chop’s play along. I had all the Barney VCR tapes, the stuffed animals, pajamas, etc. I even asked for the light-up sneakers but my mom wasn’t having it. I also had the full lambchops bedding set. Actually, now that I think about it, My Nana may still have the blanket.

  26. Are you high maintenance? Ummm…. I have been told that before. I personally don’t think I am high maintenance. My love language is quality time, so if you can’t give me your time exit stage left, please. AND I am a Cancer ♋ so I have times when I don’t want to be bothered with anyone.  Also, I like nice things but I’m not THAT expensive. But what is high maintenance tho?! Let me know your thoughts in the comments below.

  27. Are you more inclined to “build your own empire” or unleash the potential of others? How about both. I like to think that I am currently building my own empire while helping to unleash the potential of others. Stay Tuned…

  28. Are you more likely to avoid conflict or engage it head-on? I hate conflict so I would avoid it. I have to gauge people’s personalities before I respond to conflict with them. I know people who love to argue. I don’t have time for that negative energy in my life so I will avoid it. I am a work in progress tho.

  29. Are you a dog person or a cat person? Dog but my answer also depends on the breed of the dog. I have allergies so if your dog isn’t hypo-allergenic I can’t be around it. The same goes for cats, hence the dog answer.

  30. What is good about how you are living your life right now? I am operating from a space of healing and removing my fears behind pursuing my purpose. My theme this year is abundance and taking back my peace so this journey will be scary but exciting and I am happy to bring you all along for the ride.

  31. If you could eliminate one weakness or limitation in your life, what would it be? Perfectionism, damn you perfectionism! It has kept me from launching this blog late last year (2019). I was so worried about all the minor details instead of just taking this journey on head first. I am working on it tho.

  32. Can you close your eyes and raise your eyebrows? Funny thing is when I read this question, I immediately tried to do it. So yes I can.

  33. Can you dance? I would like to think I can but my mom always makes jokes that as a kid I had no rhythm.

  34. Do you remember your dreams? Yes for the most part. There are nights that I have multiple dreams and remember them all. I am sure there is a reason behind it but I would have to do more research.

  35. Do you prefer Titanic or The Notebook? Do I need to answer this question? The Notebook… Come on now

  36. What is your sun sign? Cancer ♋

  37. What is the name of your first pet? Diamond. She was a black and white cocker spaniel. She was crazy and loved to run away and poop in the house. But she was my baby. Great! Now I miss my dog. RIP

  38. Have you ever dated two people at a time? What’s your definition of dating thoooo?? Nowadays there are so many different definitions for what dating actually is. I’ve talked to multiple people at once but I don’t know if that counts as dating. If you’re interested, in my podcast with my two cousins Xavier and Talon, we talk about our definition of dating. It’s called Got the Message. Check it out and let me know what you think!

  39. Have you read any of the Harry Potter, Hunger Games or Twilight series? Which one is your favorite? I read one Harry Potter book (yawns) and all the Twilight series so obviously I am going with Twilight.

  40. What is the last compliment you got? Someone commented on my freckles and said they were beautiful. Fun Fact: My freckles did not fully come in until towards the end of college. If you would have met me in high school I had one maybe two on my face. Now I find a new one every day.

  41. Are you a morning person or a night owl? Night owl. I get the most creative downloads from the Universe at 2 in the morning.

  42. What was the first concert you ever attended? Probably a Wu-Tang concert that my dad took me to as a kid. Actually, now that I think about it, it was probably the Hard Knock Life Tour show at MTV studios. The ’90s was a good time.

  43. What was the first tattoo you got? I have a matching tattoo with one of my besties Keke. It’s on our hip and it stars with our initials inside of it. We were 19 and I wasn’t supposed to get it. My mom only found out cause my sister Nyema snitched on me smh. After that, I didn’t stop and I have 6 total.

  44. What was your first-ever cell phone? I had a Hot Pink Nokia phone. You know, the one that you could play snake on?! I got it in 7th grade and it was pre-paid. Yea I never had any minutes on that thing.

  45. What word do you use to address a group of people? Guys? Folks? Or any other word? I usually say hey loves or hey guys.

  46. When making an entrance into a party, do you make your presence known? Do you slip in and look for someone you know? Do you sneak in quietly and find a safe spot? It depends. If I come with my girls trust you will notice us (sorry not sorry). If I come in alone I will look for someone I know but I don’t try to sneak in quietly.

  47. How does music matter to you? Music is life. It gets me through anything I am going through. It helps to keep me grounded. Music is apart of who I am, and not because I have family members that make music professionally and are in the industry. It literally is my lifeline and I don’t know what I would do without it.

  48. If you became a multi-millionaire overnight, what would you buy? I wouldn’t buy materialistic things at first. I would pay off my debt first. Then I would pay off the debt of those who I love. I would donate to charity and invest in the stock market. I would put money aside for my daughters’ college education and her future sibling. I would then buy a nice piece of land and build my dream home. I would buy income properties so that I have continuous income coming in. I would invest in that hair salon I talked about earlier and other business ideas that I have that I am working on as well as the ones that I have put on hold. The key is building generational wealth.

  49. If you could give your younger self any advice what would it be? I would tell her you don’t need anyone’s approval to do what makes you happy. Do what is best for you! Oh! and save your money- don’t spend it on nonsense.

  50. Pick one, a comedy movie or a horror movie? Due to the fact that I am a chicken and don’t like to dream about what was in the movie after watching it, I’ll take comedy movies for 500 Alex.

    Bonus Questions

Cause there were some really good questions

  51. Pick one, text messaging or phone call? Sings 🎤😩 “Call me, I’m not into texting” I would rather hear your voice than text you. I actually forget to respond when people text me. I will respond in my head and then get a call like “you never texted me back!” Sorry, you should have called me I will respond faster. Also, if you want to know where the line I was singing is from, its from a song called “Fall Thru, Pull Up” by 3ARTH. She is a dope ass artist I manage who also happens to be my cousin. You can find the song on SoundCloud here.

  52. What’s a movie you can practically quote from start to finish?  Definitely one of my favs- The Wood or Love and Basketball. I watch them every few months just to refresh my memory. “We should play this game for life!” “What game?”

  53. Would you rather talk in your sleep or fart in your sleep? Well, considering that I do both (LOL) I would say fart. I’ve had too many people ask me what I was talking about when I talk in my sleep. My answer is always I don’t know or nothing.

  54. Do you ever talk to yourself when you’re alone? What’s the weirdest thing you’ve said to yourself? I was the only child for 7 ½ years, I had to learn how to play by myself. So to answer the question, yes I talk to myself..often. I think of it more as self-talk that I do out loud rather than in my head. I drop knowledge on myself that I often have to write down later. I guess growing up I had to be my own playmate. I don’t remember the weirdest thing I’ve said to myself but I am sure I’ve answered myself before.
