You are listening to the mompreneur mindset podcast, a space where we empower you to build an aligned business. So you can spend less time on the things you think you should be doing in your business, and more time with the people you love. I am your host, Gianna Diggs, let’s get into it.
Welcome back to this show. So in today’s episode, we are going to be talking about your mindset and how it can really make or break the success in your business. So let’s start with some facts about the mind. So of course, you know, we have the conscious and the unconscious mind, right.
So your conscious mind is things that you’re aware of in the moment, so that your thoughts your memories, your feelings, different wishes, right. So for example, you might be thinking about the time that you have to pick your kids up from school, right, you know, that your workday is from, you know, you have to set time that you have, you know, what time your kids have to be picked up, let’s say three o’clock, you know, you have to leave your house by 230. So that you can hopefully be on time, right? Those are things that you’re consciously aware of.
Whereas your unconscious mind, is things that you’re not consciously aware of. So your fears, your beliefs, your desires, you know, long term memory, like, say, from childhood, even your skill set. So, it’s really things that you know, that don’t, that aren’t brought up right away, right. And we spend most of our time doing things on an unconscious level. So for example, this is kind of a fun example. You don’t have to think about blinking your eyes, right? You don’t say to yourself, I need to blink my eyes, right? You just naturally do it. And if your eye starts to itch, you just naturally like, rub your eye, right? That’s an unconscious thing that we do, we don’t have to think about if you’re able bodied, you don’t have to think about walking across the room, right? Like, I need to walk up the steps, you don’t have to say I need to lift this foot in that foot, right? You just walk right, that was the unconscious things that we do. So um, you know, if you want to take that a little further, not necessarily a fun example. It’s talking about fears, right? Let’s say that your business is kind of part time. And you you want to take it full time, but you still work your nine to five. And every time you think about going full time in your business, there’s some type of fear that comes up. Right? You know, you might be there might be some fear about losing the security that that comes with having a paycheck every two weeks, or however often you’re paid. So that could come from, you know, maybe you having parents who ingrained who said it all the time you were kidding your mind that you go to school, right, you get a good paying job, you have the security of that paycheck, right, you get a career. And, you know, knowing that if you start your business full time, if you use your full time, that at any moment that business could fail. And then there goes that security of that paycheck, right. So that could be something that you subconsciously in your mind hold. And so that’s like one way that that could do with your business.
But going back to your thoughts, I’m going to give you a quick fact. So according to the National Science Foundation, an average person has about 12,000 to 60,000 thoughts per day. Now I did read somewhere that that actually might be less, but I didn’t really find the fact that stated that. So just know that you may have less thoughts than 12,060 1000. But of those of those thoughts, 80% are negative, and 95% are repetitive thought. So just think about that. If most of your thoughts, right, if 80% or net is negative, and 95 is repetitive, that means you can literally be saying negative things to yourself over and over and over again. And one thing that I learned once I started to do mindset work, and I learned this from Reese Evans is that your subconscious mind won’t make you a liar. So what does that mean? Right? If you ever heard the saying, whether you believe you can or believe you can’t, you’re right. Right? Your subconscious mind does not know the difference between what is real and what’s not. So if you keep constantly saying that your business will never be successful, even if there might be some things that show that business is successful, your mind is going to always see the negative side of that and think of your business as unsuccessful. Right. Your mind like that is one main reason why, you know, affirmations and just repetitive repeating certain things to yourself is like you see it everywhere? And it’s because you’re again, your mind does not know the difference between what’s real and what’s not.
So something that your, your mind does do is it, it does try to find things that makes that thing true. Right? So and it focuses on it. So let’s use the example of getting clients, right. Let’s say you’re not getting enough clients to allow for your business to go full time. And so but that’s really all you want. But you continue to focus on the lack of clients. Because that’s all you see. So you so your mind will start to focus on the fact that you’re not getting any notifications from your payment service, which could be stripe or PayPal. You’re focusing on what other people are doing. And you’re wondering why you’re not getting clients, even the interactions that you have with potential clients, right? When they don’t sign up. For a program, you’re like, see, I just can’t get clients, right. And so it’s really something like if you ever heard the saying of you are what you focus on, right? And so this is true in your life, your business, right? Anything, all areas of of your life, right? And so what can you do, right to stay in a positive mindset? You know, since we said mindset is everything right?
So I’m going to walk you through a process that I call my RVI method. And it’s something that I use in my clients.
So R is recognized. So some questions I want you to, there’s some questions I want you to think about. So you can recognize or evaluate your mindset around your business. So the first question is, what’s your current business mindset? Like? So are you confident in how your business is currently going? Or Is there fear present? Right, whether it’s fear of failing, feel fear of getting so big that you can’t handle the demand? Maybe not making enough money to support your family? Alright, so are you confident? Or is it fear? And then, if you’re not sure of how to actually answer that question, I want you to think to yourself, if I could wave a magic wand, and all my business wishes could come true. What would my business look like? And once you answer this question, what emotions come up? Do you feel like hell yes, like this, which definitely can happen? Or are you feeling fear that what you wrote down will never happen. And for now, I just want you to notice how you’re feeling.
So next, we have V, which is validate. And whether you notice that you have a positive or a negative mindset around your business, I want you to validate your feelings. So if you’re feeling more positive, right, acknowledge what made you feel what made you feel that way? Is it because you have all the clients you need to make your monthly income goal? Or is it because you genuinely feel happy to be making a difference in your community and, and solving issues with your ideal clients? If you feel negative, know that we all have those days. And especially when we feel like nothing is going right? Life doesn’t always have to be rainbows and unicorns, right? And under a know this and feel this in your heart that this feeling is temporary.
So lastly, we have I which is implement. So after you recognize your mindset, right, you validated how you’re feeling, it’s time to like implement techniques that you can use in those moments when your mindset is negative.
So there are so many techniques that you can utilize. So I’m going to mention just a few of my favorites. So the first one I kind of mentioned earlier in the episode is affirmations. And so again, some people really have a love and hate relationship with affirmations. But there’s a reason why people push them it’s because they actually do work. And they work because you change the way you speak about yourself both internally and externally. So using the example of getting clients some affirmations, like I am a client magnet, new clients flow to me in abundance, I easily attract clients who can pay me and like I mentioned before your your mind may look for things that make these statements true. So if you’re having a hard time saying these affirmations because you’re like, you’re right, these clients aren’t coming to me an adjustment that I learned from my mentor Mia Moran is I am becoming someone who so using the same examples from the affirmations I said earlier. I am becoming someone who is a client magnet. I am becoming someone who has clients that flow to me in abundance. I am becoming someone who easily attracts clients that can pay me Right. Another adjustment that I learned from Dana Wilde is acknowledging what is true and then adding, but on the end.
Alright, and I want to make a little side note about the word button, the subconscious mind. So, have you ever had someone who kind of gave always call it like a backwards compliment? Let’s say it’s a boss, they’re like, You’re doing a great job. But you could work on that thing, right? You know, something like that, where they say something in in there, as the bud after is like, the only thing you hear, right, your mind focuses on what comes after the word, but I don’t, I can’t recall off the top of my head, what it is about the word, but it’s just like a trigger word for us in our brain. And so whatever we say before that statement really doesn’t matter. Right. It’s what comes after the but. And so using the affirmations that we said before, I may only have two clients right now, but more clients will flow to me in abundance. I may have two clients right now. But I easily attract clients that can pay me, I may have two clients right now. But I am still a client magnet, right, you see how that works, you see the difference in the statement. And you can either Google affirmations, or you can write your own depending on how you feel. And if you’re interested in writing your own, I actually do have a blog post on my website that can teach you how to write them. And I’ll link that in the show notes.
So then there’s number two, which is meditation. So of course, meditation helps you to quiet your mind. You can meditate as much as or as much as you want, or as little as you want, 20 minutes, five minutes, whatever feels effective, I would just go with that. So again, using the topic of not getting clients, you can look for a getting clients meditation on YouTube, and listen to it whenever you feel your mind is wandering to like a negative space.
So then there’s number three, which is gratitude, and celebration. So you can start by focus on focusing on one thing that went well today, right, celebrate those very small wins. And it doesn’t have to be something that’s related to your business, it could be something, for example, like you had such a productive day overall, that you were able to get the kids in bed by 8pm. And that never actually happens, right? That’s a win. And so those are three techniques that you can use.
And I have one more, which is a more advanced technique. And this one is EFT was also known as emotional freedom technique, or tapping is how you may see called. And so basically, it’s a therapy technique loosely based on the techniques of acupuncture and acupressure. And it uses the same basic energy meridian points in the body, and it eliminates physical, emotional and mental issues. So it allows you to balance the energy system of the body and relieve any issues that you’re currently having. And it’s so super super powerful. Because, um, you know, when you’re feeling self doubt and lack of confidence and motivation to start your workday, or whatever you may be feeling, having a tapping session can really get you motivated to do the things that either you’ve been avoiding or really removes those feelings that you’ve been feeling that aren’t serving you. And so, I have another resource for you for that if you’re interested in learning more about the technique, I have a beginner friendly video on my Instagram account at Gianna Diggs underscore that I invite you to check out and again, I’ll link that in the show notes.
So that is all I have for you today. I hope that you enjoyed the episode and learn some techniques that will help your mindset around your business. And I will see you in the next episode.
